Title: Rob Starr

Author: JA Howard

Genre: YA Contemporary

Release Day: August 19th

About Rob Starr:

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐲 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬? Rob Starr (sigh) was out of Mia Morgan's league. Of course, she had a crush on him. Everyone did. But in her case, it would just be way too weird to admit that.

For starters, their moms were best friends and Mia had known Rob since she was five. But while Mia was now a demi-geek with relentlessly frizzy hair, Rob had become a demi-god and Ellsworth High's basketball superstar. Besides, he’d been going out with the totally perfect Chloe Olsen since, like, forever.

Title: The Lucky Ones

Author: Cassie Cross

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About The Lucky Ones:

Kendall Moore’s professional life has never been better. She’s an in-demand video editor who’s just started her own business, and that business is booming. She rarely has a moment to relax and has completely thrown herself into her work, which is just the way that she likes it. There’s just one tiny issue in her pursuit of professional and personal happiness: she’s getting burned out.   Of course, it doesn’t help that she’s hopelessly and secretly in love with her totally off-limits business partner, Jordan.   Jordan Murphy is an aspiring filmmaker with a past that he’s desperate to put behind him. When an opportunity arises to go to Vegas and film for a project he’s working on, he gets Kendall to agree to come along with him. After he makes a lucky bet that leads to a weekend full of fun, unexpected confessions, and a visit to a wedding chapel that neither one of them can remember, Kendall and Jordan head home wondering if what happened in Vegas should stay in Vegas…

Excerpt:

The more, it turns out, is a grand lakeview suite. One full side of it is
nothing but windows, overlooking the strip and the fountains.

There’s a living area, a dining room, two bedrooms—thank god Skye wasn’t
obvious enough to get us only one—a wet bar, and more. I could
probably fit my whole apartment in my ensuite bathroom.

My best friend is a movie star, so it’s not like I haven’t stayed in
amazing places before, but when you’re presented with something like
this out of nowhere, it seems even better somehow.

Title: Let It Snow

Author: Cassie Cross

Genre: Holiday Romance

About Let It Snow:

Amy Winstead is a twenty something video producer who loves Christmas more than anyone she’s ever known. This year, the holidays are gonna be a lot less happy because she can’t afford the plane ticket home to celebrate with her family, and her best and oldest friend Josh is moving halfway across the country for a new job that he couldn’t turn down.   When Josh asks her to accompany him on his road trip from Texas to Connecticut and offers to pay for her plane ticket back home, how could Amy say no? He’s promised some fun surprises on the trip, and more time with him could never be a bad thing.   One surprise Josh hasn’t planned on is the record-breaking blizzard heading their way. They decide to wait out the storm in the charming town of Holly Hill, where a little holiday magic and a lot of snow combine to help Josh and Amy realize that the something that’s always simmered between them could easily become something more…

Get Your Copy!

Only we don’t get the show on the road exactly, we get the show on the road to Valentina’s, our favorite taco spot, for some farewell breakfast tacos. Josh waits at the window of the teardrop trailer for our order, while I head inside the barn where there’s tables and heat, glorious heat. I fiddle with the napkin while I wait for him, a flurry of nerves in my stomach.

This is really the last time we’ll be having tacos here together, on a trip where I’m going to have to say goodbye to him at the end and fly home by myself. We’re on the precipice of this giant change, one where I go from seeing him all the time and knowing him better than anyone, to seeing him rarely and not really knowing him at all.

I know this move doesn’t have to change anything, but people make promises to each other all the time that distance and time apart make them break. The thought has been gnawing at me, making tears spring in my eyes that I tried to hide by looking out the window.

Book Description:

Warning: Sleeping with a friend might change your life forever.

Sleeping with Kyle was never in the plans. Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing, but letting our relationship become anything but platonic was another.

The problem with mixing friendship with sex is that inevitably feelings get involved, and when that happens there's no turning back.

When Kyle's life fell apart around him, I needed to help, but doing that meant opening myself up to the most terrifying thing in the world—falling in love.

The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend by Alyssa Rose Ivy is the fifth book in the hazards series and it might just be my favorite yet. This book follows Jade and Kyle on a mission to trick his family into thinking he’s in a serious relationship to get his marriage happy family off his back. But things get a bit more intense than the two bargained for when they have to spend the week together in close quarters.

One of the things I love most about all of Alyssa’s books is that she creates such realistic characters that you can’t help but get attached and want to know more about their stories. And The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend is no different. I love Jade. She’s the perfect mix of sassy and uncertainty. She’s got very real fears and we can all relate to being hurt in love at one point or another, so it’s easy to see where she’s coming from.

Excerpt:

I’d never seen Jade so happy and light. Her smile was real. It wasn’t the sarcastic, casual smile she used at school, but a giant, I love life smile that made my heart beat faster.

This was the real Jade. Jade with the pony tail and no makeup, with sneakers and shorts, and a little bit of mud. I wanted to believe it was more than the outdoors bringing it out in her. I wanted to believe it was me. But it probably wasn’t. I generally didn’t have that effect on people, but I could pretend. I could pretend that the night—and morning—we spent together would become something more.

“I could stay out here forever.” Jade pulled on my arm to get me to look out at the view.

“I could too, but it’s going to rain.”

My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.

I’m entangled in the darkness.

But the truth will set me free.

It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.

Are you scared?

I am.

“Run, little mouse. The hawk is coming, and you’re going to get eaten.” – Dare, Verum

I can’t even…just wow. What in the world did I just read? Verum by Courtney Cole was no less mind boggling and intense than Nocte and no less engaging either. This book had me by the hairs from the very start. I read it straight through in just two hours. I couldn’t put it down! Verum picks up where Nocte left off and takes us on a journey where reality and illusion collide. I honestly don’t even know what to make of what happened. Each time I think I have something figured out – BOOM – Cole inserts a twist that I never saw coming.

The more involved I get with the book the more I feel like Calla, coming apart at the seams. There is so much going on, so many stories, so many angles and people involved and I can’t help needing to know everything. The connection that Dare and Calla have…all these new family members, the secrets. There’s so much to uncover and it seems as if Calla is in a race against time.

Book Description:

Prequel novella to Lure (The Allure Chronicles #1)*

Never agree to a road trip to New Orleans with your roommate.

At least not when your roommate is dragging you along while she reconnects with an ex-boyfriend. Possible consequences of failing to take my advice:

1) Unknowingly going out with a vampire stripper
2) Getting kidnapped by said vampire's nest mates
3) Falling head over heels for your winged hero

Believe it or not number 3 is the worst one, especially when no one believes you that he exists.

New Orleans!

I absolutely adore the French Quarter even though I’ve never been there and the fact that Seduction’s Kiss by Alyssa Rose Ivy takes place there is awesome. Daisy is dragged to New Orleans by her roommate and friend Reyna, so she can spend the weekend of Halloween with the boy she likes. While Daisy doesn’t exactly want to go, she sucks it up and takes one for the team so her friend can see the boy she likes, but what happens in New Orleans is worse than anything Daisy could have dreamed up.

I’m a huge fan of Alyssa Rose Ivy and I’ve gotta say this was an incredibly strong start to a new series. I loved Daisy. Who can’t relate to having a friend who you do stuff for even though you don’t really wanna? And Halloween as the setting was perfect. I love Ivy’s character’s they are always so relatable and well thought out. She does such a good job with the banter as well.

I have been waiting for this story ever since I read The Watcher and good god it did not disappoint. The Angel Killer by Lisa Voisin picks up a couple of weeks from where The Watcher left off. I really like Voisin’s style of writing and the way her characters develop throughout the story. But I think what I loved most was the story jumped right into things. The action started right in chapter one and just kept on growing in intensity until the very end.

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: July 3, 2014

Book Description:

Echoes are the sounds the universe makes when you ignore it the first time.

Instead of signs, they are sirens. Echoes are louder and more dangerous than Clicks.

All the twins on Pinhold Island are healthy again, but the summer is still upside down. Cami's been paying better attention to what hides beneath the surface on her seemingly idyllic home, trying to make sense of the new threats to her friends and family. Massive storms have come to Pinhold, flooding the Island in a way not seen in generations. They leave behind destruction and the Red Tide, which lends the Island an eerie glow, makes the air itch and people's eyes burn. Through it all, Cami and Blake are working hard to repair their relationship, Mica is attempting to trust the grown ups on island, Shay is worried she'll never swim again and everyone is tying to re-focus on the Surf Carnival and training for The Guard.

But the threats to Pinhold from the sky don't compare to the danger that still hides beneath the waves. Can Cami and The Guard find the cause in time to reset the pin, or will they suffer damages that can never be reversed?

Excerpt:

Watching Mica playing the guitar, an uninvited thought popped into my head. I wished I had gotten a chance to see Kaleb play when he had been here. Just when I’d finally gotten used to him, he’d disappeared again. I knew he’d had a few concerts booked, it was much less tense between me and Blake now that he had left. But still. I would have loved to see him here. He used to like the drum circles, and he was a strong current in them, playing guitar and drums equally well.

I shooed away the thought before it lingered long enough to send a signal out, but I could feel Blake clicking into my head, like he had a Google search set up to ping him when Kaleb entered my brain. Maybe he did, or maybe the way I couldn’t get his brother out of my mind echoed between us in a way that would wreck things if I didn’t get myself under control.

I’m not entirely sure how to go about reviewing this book without bursting into random bouts of tears. Every Shattered Thing by Elora Nicole Ramirez is truly a heart wrenching, thought provoking and emotionally shattering story. Every Shattered Thing follows Stephanie, a teenager living in the home of her physically abusive father who also uses her in the prostitution ring he’s created.

Those of you who follow my blog know how I feel about human trafficking and everything that goes a long with it and I so did not expect that in this book. It took me so long to get through and not because the book was bad. Every Shattered Thing was amazing from start to finish, but the subjects touched in this book…God, my heart hurt.

Book Description:

One small town boy, one girl who wants more, one roll in the hay...

Hooking up with your high school crush is a bad idea, a really bad idea. It was only supposed to be one night, one brief departure from my real life, but nothing ever works out exactly the way you plan.

Colton Waters was everything from my past that didn't fit into my present, so why did he have to show up at my college and pledge the one frat I couldn't avoid?

Because nothing is ever meant to happen just once. At least not the life changing things that mean the difference between falling apart and falling in love.

♥ ♥ ♥

Alyssa Rose Ivy has done it again. The Hazards of a One Night Stand is the second book in her Hazards series and I’ve got to say I absolutely loved it. While I will never love anyone as much as I love Reed, who makes several appearances in this new book, I really did enjoy Colton’s character.

The Hazards of a One Night Stand focuses on Mallory a sophomore at Hudson and best friends with Cara and Juliet. One thing I really enjoy about all of Ivy’s main characters is how real she makes them. Her main characters both male and female are always dealing with real issues, which make them incredibly relatable to the readers.

Mallory is no different. She is sweet and kind and has a very big heart that she hides behind a wall of sarcasm. She had her heart broken and now trusting for her is hard. She’s also dealing with her father, who is the biggest ass in the world, and a very overprotective stepfather. But even more than that she’s still so young and she’s trying to figure out who she is and what she wants out of life, which is something we can all relate to.

Book Description:

What if all the legends you’ve learned were wrong?

Brutally attacked by one god and unfairly cursed by another she faithfully served, Medusa has spent the last two thousand years living out her punishment on an enchanted isle in the Aegean Sea.

A far cry from the monster legends depict, she’s spent her time educating herself, gardening, and desperately trying to frighten away adventure seekers who occasionally end up, much to her dismay, as statues when they manage to catch her off guard. As time marches on without her, Medusa wishes for nothing more than to be given a second chance at a life stolen away at far too young an age.

But then comes a day when Hermes, one of the few friends she still has and the only deity she trusts, petitions the rest of the gods and goddesses to reverse the curse. Thus begins a journey toward healing and redemption, of reclaiming a life after tragedy, and of just how powerful friendship and love can be—because sometimes, you have to sink in the deep end of the sea before you can rise back up again.

♥ ♥ ♥

I am a huge fan of mythology always have been and retellings or different take on mythology are one of my favorite things to read. I haven’t found many over the years that are good, but The Deep End of The Sea by Heather Lyons was absolutely amazing!

This was such a well-developed and poignant story. I really enjoyed Lyons take of Medusa and her entire backstory. The Deep End of The Sea shows how a young girl names Medusa was a priestess in Athena’s temple. She was raped by Poseidon and then cursed by Athena for defiling her temple. Her curse was being turned into the hideous “monster” Medusa. But in truth Dusa wasn’t a monster at all.

Excerpt:

Drake held me close under his arm, just holding me in silence. Then, out of nowhere, I decided to look his way. He was smiling when I did, his mahogany eyes trained on me. I turned completely toward him, wondering how long he’d been watching me.

In complete silence, he guided my lips to his, a single finger against my cheek to help me make up the small distance to him. Right before our lips would have connected, he stopped. Confused, I pulled back just a little, seeing the warmth in his eyes.

“What is it?” I asked him.

My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.

“I choose life…Goodbye, demons. I will carry you no further. You will never plague me again.” – Spencer, Greed.

Greed by Fisher Amelie is the second book in the Seven Deadly series and as much as I loved Vain when I read it, my enjoyment of Greed far surpassed that of the previous book. I thought it wasn’t possible to like a book more than I liked Vain, but I was wrong. Greed follows Spencer Blackwell, who we met in book one. He was and continues to be Sophie Price’s best friend and while I liked Spencer in her book, his book opens up so many more facets to his personality.

In Vain we get the sense that Spencer and his family aren’t close and in Greed we learn why. Despite the fact that Spencer is away at school, every so often his father will call him home to do his bidding and Spencer, knowing he’ll get paid handsomely comes home and does it regardless of the fact that he  hates himself for it afterwards.

“Have you ever felt free?” she asked.

“Never,” I answered truthfully. I could barely keep my eyes open. “I live in a cage,” I embellished.

“Poor baby,” Piper cooed, swiping her crimson lacquered nails down my face.

She wasn’t sincere, not even in the slightest. Anger briefly flashed across her face.

“I know what you’re thinking,” I rumbled through a thick tongue, “but you’d be wrong.”

“No I wouldn’t,” she whispered. “You live a life of privilege.”

“It’s not half what it’s cracked up to be. Do you know how hard it is to be a good person with money?”

“Do you know how hard it is to be a good person without it?”

We were quiet, watching the fountains below my twenty‐story villa.

“Do you want to feel free?” she asked.

Best book ever!

Yes, I say this often, or at least often lately. But in all honesty 3AM Kisses by Addison Moore is by far one of the best books I’ve read in the last month. 3 AM Kisses follows Baya Brighton as she heads off to Whitney Briggs University for her freshmen year of college. But what she finds when she gets there isn’t at all what she expected. Thrust into a world of debauchery, Baya is shocked to find how her brother spends his time at college.

As if the shock of a new environment isn’t enough, Baya is dealing with new friends, classes, a bad boy who might not be so bad and a roommate who can’t stop sexing up the entire school. I have to say Jeanie is one of the funniest characters to pop up in this story especially since she’s sort of a background character that we never really know too much about other than the fact that she’s the university bicycle.

Book Description:

Baya Brighton is looking forward to her first year at Whitney Briggs University, new friends, dorm life, and finally being close to her brother again.

Love is the last thing on the list, but when Baya meets her brother’s roommate she begins to have thoughts and feelings that make even her blush.

Bryson Edwards has a secret he prefers buried in the past and long forgotten. He prefers loose girls, fast cars, and long nights working at the string of bars his family owns. When his roommate’s sister shows up on the scene, she’s far too innocent and sweet for him but he can’t shake Baya out of his mind and worse, it looks like she’s seeping into his heart as well.

Baya seems determined to show her brother she’s not a little kid and equally determined to use Bryson’s body to prove her point. It’s been made pretty clear that Baya is off limits to Bryson but their undeniable sparks explode into a whole lot more than just a few 3:AM Kisses.
